Progress, not perfection
Hey y'all!
Life has been hectic so I haven't sat down to write much. We've been dealing with back to back germs (who is ready for the germy season to end?! 🙋🏻♀️)
One thing I really have been wanting to talk about is David's progress! He is making so much progress, but still isn't perfect. But guess what? None of us are. I have been using KKWellness for my own health and they constantly state "progress not perfection" because we tend to put very unrealistic expectations on ourselves. With pressure from society, we also tend to place those expectations on our children. We expect these tiny humans to have full control of their emotions when as adults, we don't even have that! We also expect our children to hit certain milestones. Most children do. However, some of us have kiddos that take much longer or will never meet certain milestones. Guess what? That's great too!
David goes to occupational and speech therapy now. He is doing great working with a speech device to communicate. However, in OT, he is REALLY thriving! One thing we cannot get him to do is hold a pencil. He very much struggles with those fine motor skills. His amazing therapist has made such great strides with him.
We are unsure if David will ever be able to write words or sentences, or if his brain will allow him to make the connection to form those words. However, this Valentine's Day, I was given the best gift. David made a picture in therapy and I couldn't be more proud.
Whether your child will hit milestones or not, celebrate the progress, not just the perfection.
Anyway, I'll be sure to write soon!
